Spatial-Search on Bing Maps

This morning, looking at the Flickr blog, I read this cool post about Flickr Everywhere. — a collection of new ways Flickr is being integrated into offerings from Apple, Google and Microsoft.

The item that really caught my attention was the way that Microsoft is integrating Flickr content into Bing Maps. A type of spatial-search, it’s a very cool-looking mashup of their Photosynth technology with Flickr content. Check out, below, the video of it’s design lead, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, demonstrating it.  And there’s a lengthy (and quite interesting) explanation of what’s going on here on the Bing blog. And there’s more in Microsoft’s press release.

I haven’t played with it much yet, but the idea of showing historical photos context in a live map looks super-neat. And the integration with their World Wide Telescope looks amazing, too. Stay tuned for more…
